I see a free counselor at my college because I realized I think I need some fucking help but of course I could never pay for an actual therapist but I thought it was amazing that my school let you see someone for absolutely no charge, well I think you really do get what you pay for because I do think my counselor is very nice but I am getting no where with my mental health if anything it has made things worse because it just makes my anxiety worse when I go to see her and I know I’ve made no progress in my mental health and that just makes my mental health deteriorate more like wtf. The ONLY solutions she ever gives me to problems or gives me to think about are “calming” techniques or in other words: Distract yourself basically, so how will that improve my depression and anxiety? If I just don’t think about it it’s not there? Has anyone else ever experienced this w/ a free counselor type of situation. I’m aware there’s only so much they can do when your client isn’t paying you but literally all I ever get is handouts saying I should hold ice in my bare hands? How tf exactly does that help me when I feel like I want to walk into traffic everyday.
